The Super Bowl isn't the only big game being played this weekend. There's a historic meeting of top-25 men's college basketball teams at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls.

Saturday's much-anticipated match-up between 18th-ranked UNI and No. 12 Wichita State will be the first in 33 years between two teams from the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) ranked in the Associated Press poll. It'll also mark the first time that UNI is playing a game that features two teams ranked in the AP top-25.

The marquee battle features two of the best defensive teams in the country. UNI ranks fifth nationally in scoring defense, allowing only 54.7 points per game. The Shockers are eighth in the same category, giving up an average of 55.9 points.

Both teams putting impressive streaks on the line this weekend. The Panthers are seeking their 14th consecutive home victory dating back to last season, while Wichita State has won 13-straight road games in conference play. Overall, the Shockers have been victorious in 30-straight games against league opponents (including the 2014 MVC Tournament).

Wichita State has the best winning percentage in Division-I since the start of the 2010-11 season. The Shockers top the list with a record of 139-26 (.842), while UNI is second-best in the MVC in that span.

During the past five years, only nine teams nationally have notched 40 or more road wins. Wichita State is the leader among that group, winning 44 of the 53 games played on an opponent's floor since 2010-11.

The Shockers and UNI are both 19-2 following victories Wednesday night. Wichita State won at home, beating Loyola (Chicago) 58-47. The Panthers stayed in the hunt for the MVC championship, rallying to beat Southern Illinois, 59-52, on the road.

Heading into Saturday, a half-game separates the two teams in the MVC standings. Wichita State is 9-0 in league play, while UNI is 8-1. The Shockers have won six of the last seven games against UNI, but the Panthers lead the all-time series 25-24.

With Cedar Falls hosting a top-25 match-up for the first time, there's plenty of excitement surrounding the game. The McLeod Center is sold out. UNI officials are expecting more than 7,000 fans to pack the arena, which has a listed seating capacity of 6,650.

ESPN2 is scheduled to televise the 3 p.m. game to a national audience.

NOTES: The most-recent head-to-head meeting between ranked MVC opponents was on January 16th, 1982, when #18 Tulsa (no longer a league member) beat #16 Wichita State, 99-88 ... With a victory Saturday, UNI would earn the program's 11th 20-win season ... With both teams at 19-2, it's the best start for two MVC teams since 1959-60.
