An Elkader man and his dog have been injured when their motorcycle was rear-ended by a sport utility vehicle.

The accident happened at the intersection of Highways 13 and 100, just southeast of Marion, just before 6pm Monday (June 18).

61 year old Mark Koehn was headed north on Highway 13, and had stopped his Harley Davidson for a red light at the intersection.

His cycle was struck in the rear by a Cadillac Escalade driven by 38 year old Jennifer Burlage of Delhi, who had failed to stop in time.

Koehn was not wearing a helmet; he was taken to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids to be treated for apparent non-life threatening injuries. A dog riding in the side car of the bike, sustained minor injuries; the dog was taken to a local veterinarian for treatment.

Burlage was not hurt; she was charged with Failure to Stop in an Assured Clear Distance.
