There seems to be a lot of pressure these days when it comes to sales. Many retailers are fighting to turn their numbers from red to black by opening their stores on Thanksgiving instead of the traditional Black Friday. Not only do stores have to contend with a sluggish economy but they also have to battle a growing trend of on-line shopping.

There has been some negative press on the stores opening on a national holiday. Mainly, because people want to be home with their families. There are a few stores that have announced that they WILL NOT be open on Thanksgiving.

A website called  back.bestblackfriday.com has posted a list of the retailers, who will be closed on Thanksgiving. Some of the stores on the list include:

  • Some Ace Hardware stores (Cedar Falls is listed as closed on Turkey Day)
  • Cabela's
  • Costco
  • Dillard's
  • GameStop
  • Hobby Lobby
  • Home Depot
  • Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores
  • Lowe's
  • Petco
