IMCA Deery Series & HDT finales this weekend at Farley

Champions of two IMCA special series will be crowned during this weekend’s Yankee Dirt Track Classic at Farley Speedway.

While Justin Kay sits on the cusp of winning his second straight Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models crown, Kyle Brown takes a slim four-point advantage over Mike Van Gen­deren in the chase for the Hawkeye Dirt Tour for Xtreme Motor Sports IMCA Modifieds title.

Late Models race for $3,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start their 50-lap main event on Friday, Sept. 18 and a hefty $7,500 to win and $500 to start their 100-lapper on Saturday, Sept. 19.

Saturday’s Hawkeye Dirt Tour main pays $2,000 to win and a minimum of $175 to start.

Kay can clinch the Deery championship simply by making the main event field one night and start­ing his heat the other, but he’ll be targeting more than two rich paydays at Farley: A weekend sweep would give him nine series wins this season, equaling the mark set in 1998 by Jeff Aikey.

Joel Callahan owns a streak of three straight Deery wins at Farley, including Yankee features in 2013 and 2014, and the main event there this April.

The Hawkeye Dirt Tour title chase has been a two-car race between Brown and Van Genderen, the defending champion, since mid-June.

Consistent finishes throughout the eight race series have them running 1-2 heading into the 40-lap finale as neither is among the seven different drivers having won HDT events thus far.

Test and tune sessions for Late Models, Modifieds and Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods are on the card tonight (Wednesday) and Thursday on the 3/8-mile oval at Farley.

IMCA Sunoco Stock Car and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock qualifying is Wednesday, Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMod qualifying and the $2,000 to win Tri-Track Challenge for Late Models on Thurs­day.

Hot laps start at 6:30 p.m. Friday with a $1,000 to win IMCA Modified show and the Deery Series program to follow.

Along with the Deery Series and Hawkeye Dirt Tour, the Saturday program sees SportMods run­ning for $750 to win, Stock Cars for $600 and Hobby Stocks for $500. Racing starts at 5:30 p.m.

Four-day grandstand admission is $67 for adults, $58 for seniors and $48 for students.

Wednesday admission is $13 for adults, $10 for seniors and $7 for students, with $25 pit passes. On Thursday, adults get in for $16, seniors for $14 and students for $10, with pit passes at $30.

Friday admission is $20 for adults, $17 for seniors and $15 for seniors. Pit passes are $30. And on Saturday, spectator admission is $30 for adults, $27 for seniors and $25 for students. Pit passes are $35.

Both Friday and Saturday Modified features are 2016 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot qualifying events.
