The National Weather Service has issued an Ice Storm Warning for a portion of northeast Iowa for Monday, January 16, 2017. The rest of the area remains under a Winter Weather Advisory.

A strong winter storm will continue to bring periods of freezing rain into Iowa this morning. Extremely hazardous travel conditions can be expected. Some schools have no classes today in honor of Martin Luther King Day, but there are still some school announcements (read more).

The counties under the Ice Storm Warning include: Black Hawks, Bremer, Butler, Grundy, Hardin, and Tama. The warning runs until midnight tonight. Freezing rain will tapper off for a period this morning. Freezing drizzle is expected to continue. Another round of moderate freezing rain arrives later this morning. Storm total ice accumulations predicted from two to four tenths of an inch.

All other counties in northeast Iowa are under a Winter Weather Advisory. The advisory's expiration time various based each individual county. Most expire at midnight tonight with southern counties expiring late afternoon and evening. Total now and sleet accumulation is predicted to be less than a half inch and ice accumulations of up to two tenths of an inch.
