Continuing road work on an interstate interchange in Waterloo will require the closure of an on-ramp and a tighter lane restriction for the next several weeks.

Traffic on the northbound Interstate 380/westbound U.S. Highway 20 to northbound U.S. Highway 218 ramp is presently restricted to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction. Beginning Tuesday evening (July 14, 2015), the restriction in the open lane will change to a 10-foot width, according to officials at the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.

The lane restriction will likely result in slow or stopped traffic during peak travel times. Motorists may wish to seek alternative routes to avoid the traffic congestion.

In conjunction with the tighter lane restriction, the River Forest Road interchange on-ramp to northbound I-380 and westbound U.S. 20 from Evansdale will be closed until Sept. 2, weather permitting.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
