High School Volleyball Rankings - Thursday, September 4, 2014

Sixteen Northeast Iowa teams are featured in the second volleyball rankings of the season released by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union on Thursday (September 4, 2014).

Leading the way is three-time defending state champion Dike-New Hartford, which is top-ranked in Class-2A. The Wolverines opened their season Thursday evening with a 3-0 milestone victory over West Marshall of State Center. The win was the 100th-straight against an opponent from the state of Iowa dating back to October 8th, 2011.

The 2A rankings include four other area teams. Grundy Center is fifth, Wapsie Valley is eighth, Jesup is 12th and Denver is 13th. Jesup takes over the spot previously held by Hudson in the preseason poll. The Pirates dropped out of the top 15 after some early season losses.

Janesville is the highest ranked Northeast Iowa team in Class-1A. The Wildcats are rated second in the poll, followed by Tripoli at number six, Turkey Valley seventh and Don Bosco eighth.

In Class-3A, Iowa Falls-Alden is ranked third. The Cadets are followed by fourth-ranked Independence and 11th-rated La Porte City Union. Independence opened the season winning four of its first five matches.

West Delaware is also off to a good start. The Hawks are ranked second in Class-3A, after opening their season with five-straight shutout victories. The 3A ratings also feature Waverly-Shell Rock, which is ranked 13th.
