It was a battle of unbeaten teams colliding in the Class A Iowa High School Football State Championship Game on Thursday in the UNI-Dome. In the end, it was the defending Class A champions on top.

In the end, it was the Gladbrook-Reinbeck Rebels that won their second straight Iowa High School Football State Championship,.

Bishop Garrigan, Algona (12-1) sprang out to a 13-0 lead during the first half. It wasn't until 3:29 in the second quarter that Gladbrook-Reinbeck (13-0) got onto the scoreboard. Parker Brown scored the Rebels' first touchdown off of a nine-yard run. About one minute later, Hunter Lott had a 10-yard run to give GB a 14-13 lead going into halftime.

Both defenses stepped up as the second half started. It wasn't until the fourth quarter that someone finally crossed the goal line. A ten-yard reception for BGA finally broke the defensive showdown with 9:56 left in the game. Bishop Garrigan attempted a two-point conversion, but Gladbrook-Reinbeck's stingy defense stood strong.

The Rebels answered with a 24-yard pass and touchdown to Matt Johannsen from Hunter Lott to give GB a 20-19 lead. The Rebels also tried a two-point conversion, but were stopped short.

The Rebels's defense held on for the Class A state championship win for Gladbrook-Reinbeck, 20-19. See the complete Class A Playoff Bracket here (web). That makes back-to-back championships for the Rebels.
