ABC Bakers, the company that bakes the millions of cookies sold by the Girl Scouts of America, are introducing a new surprise this cookie season. It will be tested in 20 markets. If the cookies perform well in those locations, they may go national next cookie season.

Chocolate Chip Shortbread Cookies will be the first 'gluten-free' cookie offered by the Girl Scouts. The ABC Bakers' web site explain their decision to try the gluten-free snack.

Since it’s estimated that three million people have problems when they eat foods that contain gluten*, ABC and our council partners expect this cookie to be a huge success. Our new bite size Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Shortbread cookie.

The cookie will be made with real chocolate chips and real butter. They also stress that it will contain to artificial colors, no high fructose corn syrup, no palm oil, and no hydrogenated oils.
