Fire damaged a Waterloo duplex late Wednesday night (April 12, 2017).

Crews were called to 414 Allen St. around 11:30 p.m. Heavy fire was showing from the front of the two-story wood frame structure when they arrived at the scene.

Battalion Chief Mike Moore of Waterloo Fire Rescue said the blaze started in the kitchen of apartment No. 2 and has been ruled accidental. The fire left the unit with extensive fire, smoke and water damage. There was moderate smoke damage to apartment No.1. Officials estimated damage to the duplex to be about $70,000.

Moore said the fire displaced five adults and three children from the two apartments, but no one was injured.
