Additional Information

The fourth annual Stone Soul Picnic will be held at Gateway Park on Sunday, September 13th, 1-5 pm.   The Stone Soul Picnic mission is to raise the awareness of childhood hunger in NE Iowa.  One out of five children in NE Iowa are food insecure.  The proceeds from the Stone Soul Picnic go to the North East Iowa Food Bank children’s programs.

Kids Cafe welcomes any child who is in need of a nutritious meal.  Last fiscal year, Kids Cafe provided more than 40,000 meals and snacks to children in Black Hawk County at seven locations.  Cafe participants can join in activities or just come for the meal.

Backpack Program is available at more than 120 sites throughout the Northeast Iowa Food Bank’s service area.  These sites include schools, churches, daycare centers and community centers.  Thanks to many dedicated Food Bank and school volunteers as well as community support, more than 10,000 backpacks are distributed to more than 4,000 children each month.

The event will feature Star-B-Que Bar-B-Que with pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, smoked baked beans, and chips. Vegetarian selections will also be available thanks to Greenfield’s Health Food Center. There is no charge for food. Freewill donations will be accepted.

Stone Soul Picnic also features live music!  This year’s entertainment includes The Blue 2 (1:00pm), (Bob Dorr and Jeff Petersen from The Blue Band), Checker and the Bluetones (2:00pm), Brazilian 2wins (3:00pm), and Milk and Honey (4:00pm).  All bands have volunteered their time and talents.

This is a family friendly event.  There are many children’s activities:  face painting, bubble pool, petting zoo, and more. Dean Franzen, The Dean of Juggling, will be doing interactive activities with the children (and adults).

Underwriting this year’s Stone Soul Picnic are: Far Reach Technology, Westminster Presbyterian Church, St. Paul Lutheran Church (CF), Fahr Beverage, Murphy’s Auto Service, The Shirt Shack, Iowa Waste Reduction Center, Greenfields Health Food Center, Metro Area Hy-Vees, Lamar Advertising, Remax Realtors, Dan Deery Motors, Larry Fox and Associates, Henry Maidan and Ameriprise Financial, Star-B-Que Bar-B-Que, as well as many individual donations.
