Additional Information

The Northeast Iowa Food Bank is celebrating a successful growing season with a garden party, and the public is invited to attend. The party will take place at the Food Bank’s on-site community garden located at 1605 Lafayette St., Waterloo on August 14th from 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm.

In the spring of 2014 the Northeast Iowa Food Bank and Center for Energy and Environmental Education partnered to begin a community garden.  The Food Bank provided the land on the north side of the Food Bank office, while CEEE organized the garden.

To date 404 pounds have been harvested from the garden. Most of the vegetables have been distributed through the Cedar Valley Food Pantry. A portion has also been used for educating area youth on how to harvest and cook with the produce.

The Northeast Iowa Food Bank provides nutritious food and grocery products, to about 200 nonprofit organizations and programs who assist the hungry, and to individuals who need food assistance to sustain life. Last year, the Food Bank distributed more than 6 million pounds of food within a 16-county service area.

The Food Bank is a member of the Iowa Food Bank Association and Feeding America. For more information visit www.northeastiowafoodbank.org.
