The Raiders were hoping their season ended with a state championship, but finishing second isn't that bad.

Unranked West Lyon dominated third-ranked Dunkerton from start-to-finish and took the Class-1A title in convincing fashion, 60-32, at the Boys State Basketball Tournament in Des Moines Friday night (March 14, 2014). The championship is the first for West Lyon, which was making its first appearance at state. The loss snapped a 20=game winning streak for the Raiders, who finish with a 27-2 record.

Dunkerton seniors Kory Kuenstling and Trevor Jacobsen were both chosen to the elite six-player All-Tournament team.

West Lyon took control of the game early, winning the opening tip and jumping out to an 8-0 lead. The Wildcats owned a 14-4 lead after the first quarter and had a 34-14 edge at halftime.

All-Tournament team captain Brandon Snyder scored a game-high 23 points to lead West Lyon. Nick Anderson led Dunkerton with 11 points, while Kuenstling and Jacobsen combined to score just seven points.

The Wildcats entered the eight-team tournament as the lowest seed and became part of a select group when they won the championship. West Lyon is the ninth team in state history to win football and basketball titles in the same school year.
