Traffic is flowing on a downtown Waterloo bridge once again, nearly two months after the structure was closed for repairs.

City officials re-opened the Fourth Street bridge over the Cedar River earlier today (Friday, October 31, 2014). The span has been closed since September 2nd.

For the past eight weeks, contractors have been busy repairing and resurfacing the bridge deck. The project was part of a $1.2 million contract the Waterloo city council awarded to Cramer and Associates of Grimes late last year.

The company made a joint bid to repair the Fourth, Fifth and Conger Street bridges in Waterloo. The Fourth Street structure was the last of the three projects to be completed.

Work on the Fifth Street bridge downtown and on the Conger Street bridge near the National Cattle Congress fairgrounds was finished earlier this year.

When the Fourth Street bridge was closed in early September, city officials said then that the project would take about eight weeks to complete.
