Dierks Bentley’s ‘Hold the Light’ Shows Sobering Look at Life of Firefighters [Watch]

Dierks Bentley has joined forces with Bon Iver’s S. Carey to debut the new music video for “Hold The Light,” a song featured in the upcoming film Only the Brave. The first song Bentley has ever co-written and recorded for a motion picture, the video is a sobering look at the dangers that firefighters face while combatting deadly wildfires.

“This song hits really close to me because we wrote it based on the story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots,” Bentley said in a statement. “One of the most powerful takeaways for me from working on this project has been the need to search for hope and light even in the darkest of times. I think right now that message is more meaningful than ever.”

The film follows the Granite Mountain Hotshots, a band of Arizona firefighters, who risk their lives to protect the town of Prescott from one of the worst wildfires in modern American history. It’s a story that hits close to home for Bentley, an Arizona native.

“I was on the road when the fire happened back in 2013, and we went out to do a little benefit in awareness for these families and the community of Prescott,” Bentley tells The Hollywood Reporter. “So we did a concert there and got to meet some of the families, meet Brendan [McDonough], the one firefighter that survived.”

The five-minute video sees Bentley on a stool playing the somber song on acoustic guitar while scenes from the film, like the powerful wildfire the firefighters are trying to put out, are also interspersed throughout.

Only the Brave stars Jeff Bridges, Josh Brolin, Miles Teller, Taylor Kitsch and Jennifer Connelly and will hit theaters on Oct. 20.
