UNI's Trevor Jauch was named Wrestler of the Week by the Mid-American Conference (MAC), league officials announced today (Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016).

He is the second UNI Panther to earn conference honors this year. Freshman Bryce Steiert won Wrestler of the Week Dec. 3.

Jauch not only knocked off his second top-20 opponent of the year, he won both of his duals at two different weight classes.

The senior moved up from 141 pounds to 149 pounds to take on Virginia Tech's Sal Mastriani, a returning NCAA qualifier who has been ranked for much of his career. Jauch had a takedown early in the match and racked up more than five and a half minutes of riding time before winning 10-3.

On Sunday, Jauch moved back down to 141 pounds and beat No. 9 Chris Mecate of Old Dominion (ODU). His first top-20 win was a fall over then-ranked No. 15 Jamel Hudson of Hofstra in the first dual of the season.

Jauch sparked the team’s dominate 24-12 win over ODU with a 5-3 decision over Mecate. Jauch had racked up about a minute of riding time, but he trailed 3-2 to start the third period. The wrestlers started neutral. With about 15 seconds left in the match, Jauch got the takedown and was awarded riding time to win 5-3.

Jauch competed unattached last season after transferring from Missouri to UNI. His brother, Ryan, is a former Panther wrestler. Trevor Jauch is now 14-6 overall, 2-1 in the MAC.

UP NEXT: The Panthers host Central Michigan on Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. in the West Gym for Military Appreciation Night. They will host a second weekend dual with Ohio on Jan. 31.
