The highly-touted Wartburg football team was challenged in its 2015 season opener, but the Knights passed the survival test Saturday night (Sept. 5).

Sixth-ranked Wartburg moved its record to 9-0 in night home openers in the Walston-Hoover Stadium era (since 2001) with a 35-27 win over Augsburg (Minn.).

One of the key points of the game occured with 2:34 remaining the the third quarter when the Auggies were leading 27-21. Wartburg senior Nick Clasen (Maquoketa) recovered a fumble at Augsburg's 20-yard line.

The Knights capitalized on the turnover, taking two plays to regain the lead at 28-27. Sophomore Riley Brockway (Postville) caught an 18-yard pass from senior Logan Schrader (Kildeer, Ill.) with 1:33 to play in the frame, putting Wartburg ahead to stay.

The Orange and Black added to their advantage in the fourth quarter when senior Brandon Domeyer (Manchester) scored his third touchdown of the day on a one-yard run. He has now moved into fifth on the program's rushing touchdown leader list and also tied his career high with his three TDs in a game.

Schrader was 18-of-28 with two touchdown passes and 234 yards. He remains in the fourth spot on the career leader list in touchdown passes.

Senior Robbie Anstoetter (Farley) led the receivers with five receptions for 74 yards while classmate Gunner Tranel (Cedar Rapids) led the defense with nine total tackles (one solo and eight assists).

Wartburg (1-0 overall) will spend the week preparing for a top 25 battle on Saturday, when the No. 6 Knights face 20th-ranked Bethel (1-0 overall) in St. Paul, Minn., at 1 p.m.
