Iowa High School Football Week Six Preview

The Iowa high school football season heads into the home stretch with week six games being played across the state on Friday night (Oct. 2, 2015).

It's Homecoming for Waterloo West (2-3) as the Wahawks play their annual game against cross-city rival Waterloo East (0-5) at Memorial Stadium. Both teams are looking for their first district win after dropping their district openers last week.

Like East, Waterloo Columbus Catholic (0-5) is seeking its first win of the season. The Sailors are hoping for an upset on the road against No. 8 Waukon. Tenth-ranked Cedar Falls (4-1) is on the road, too, playing a pivotal district game at Cedar Rapids Jefferson (3-2).

In Class-2A, there's a critical District 6 match-up featuring No. 7 Aplington-Parkersburg (4-1) and La Porte City Union (2-3). Since their season-opening loss at Dike-New Hartford, the Falcons have scored 50 points or more in each of their victories. They travel to La Porte City for the match-up against an always-solid Union team that hoping to avoid a second loss in district play.

Another intriguing match-up takes place in Jesup, where the unranked J-Hawks (3-2) host No. 10 South Winneshiek (4-1) in a Class-1A match-up. Jesup is 2-1 in District 4 play, while the Warriors are 2-0.

A week ago, Oelwein ended its eight-game losing steak with a road win at Waterloo Columbus Catholic. The Huskies (1-4) are hoping for similar success when they host New Hampton, one of the co-leaders of Class-2A, District 3.
