The unbeaten Iowa Hawkeyes are ranked No. 4 in the new College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings and would be a semifinalist if the national championship series began this week.

The 12-member CFP committee moved Iowa (11-0 overall, 7-0 Big Ten) up one spot in the latest poll, which was released early Tuesday evening (Nov. 24, 2015).

The top teams remained the same as a week ago, with Clemson ranked No. 1 and Alabama No. 2. Oklahoma replaced Ohio State at No. 3 after the Buckeyes lost to Michigan State, 17-14.

The Hawkeyes, ranked fifth last week, earned a spot among the top four teams after beating Purdue on Saturday, 40-20. With the victory, they won the Big Ten Conference (B1G) West Division title and secured a berth in the Big Ten Football Championship Game in Indianapolis on Dec. 5.

Iowa is off to the best start in school history. The Hawkeyes will cap their first unbeaten regular-season with a win at Nebraska Friday afternoon. Kick-off is set for 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Neb.

A loss to the Cornhuskers or a setback in the B1G title game would likely cost Iowa a spot in the College Football Playoffs. If they fail to qualify for the championship series, the Hawkeyes are in position to earn a bid to one of the top bowl games not involved in the CFP series.
