Aplington-Parkersburg High School alumnus and former NFL player Aaron Kampman is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at an event hosted by the Wartburg College Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) next week in Waverly.

Kampman will be talking about his Christian faith at Levick Arena on the Wartburg campus on Monday, April 25, 2016. The 8 p.m. event is free and open to public. Area youth groups and church groups are especially invited to attend.

After graduating from Aplington-Parkersburg in 1997, Kampman went on to play football for the University of Iowa. In 2001, he was named first team All-Big Ten Conference and first team academic All-Ameican while serving as the Hawkeyes' co-captain. He finished his college career with 342 tackles, the seventh-best total in Iowa.

Kampman played 10 seasons in the NFL, starting with the Green Bay Packers from 2002 to 2009. He played his final two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars and ended his professional career with 483 total tackles and 58 sacks. Kampman was twice selected to the Pro Bowl.

During their eight years in Green Bay, Kampman and his wife were deeply involved in the community. According to theinsightfulplayer.org, they frequently volunteered for charities, food pantries and fundraisers. His Christian faith has also led Kampman into overseas missions in Germany, India and Kenya.

Kampman currently lives with his family in southeast Iowa, where he is actively mentoring and coaching.

“We are so excited and thankful to have Aaron Kampman coming to campus to share his love for Jesus and how we can find our worth in him,” said Doug Frazell, Wartburg FCA’s staff adviser who is also co-head volleyball coach and community recreation program coordinator. “We hope to see a large number of people from around the Cedar Valley come to and enjoy getting a chance to hear him speak.”

FCA is the largest Christian sports organization in the world with a focus on coaches, campus, camp and community ministries.
