Don Bosco left little doubt it's one of the best teams in the state of Iowa Thursday morning (Nov. 10, 2016).

The fourth-ranked Dons rolled into the eight-player state championship game with a dominating 72-0 victory over Midland of Wyoming at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. It's the fourth time in the last five seasons that Don Bosco has won a semifinal game in the Iowa High School playoffs. The Dons won their only title in 2013.

The Eagles, appearing in their first semifinal, were out of rhythm all day while playing without injured starting quarterback Alex Martens. Midland lost seven fumbles.

Don Bosco turned the first recovery into points when Austin Svoboda recovered a bad snap and raced five-yards for the game's initial score on the third play of the game. After the two-point conversion and ensuing kick-off, the Eagles took up most of the first-quarter clock and marched to the Dons' four-yard line before being stopped on downs. When Don Bosco took possession, Svoboda raced 77 yards to the endzone and the Dons ran for the two-point conversion.

When the first quarter ended, Don Bosco had run one offensive play and led the Eagles' 16-0. They built a 52-0 lead at halftime and ended the game with more than 350 yards of offense. Svoboda scored three of the Dons' touchdowns and teammate Wyatt Sawvel rushed for a pair.

Next, Don Bosco plays Harris-Lake Park for the eight-player state championship at 10 a.m. on Thursday (Nov. 17). The Wolves advanced to next week's final with a 35-21 win over Fremont-Mills in the other semifinal game.
