The Waterloo Black Hawks earned a valuable road win beating the Dubuque Fighting Saints, 5-3. Saturday night’s game in Waterloo is an important USHL Western Conference match-up.

Entering Friday’s game (Mar. 10, 2017), the Waterloo Black Hawks (31-14-2-2, 66 points) looked to gain some ground on the Sioux City Musketeers (32-9-5-2, 71 points) for the USHL Western Conference regular season title.

The Waterloo Black Hawks opened the game against the Dubuque Fighting Saints Friday night (Mar. 10, 2017) with a goal 22 seconds after the opening faceoff. Kevin Charyszyn shot the puck, but it was turned away. Bailey Conger found the puck in the slot and shot it into the back of the net.

That was the only scoring until the second period when the lamp lit six times. Waterloo’s Shane Bowers, Garrett Wait, and Ethan Spaxman each scored goals. The Fighting Saints kept the game close with three of their own goals. By the end of the second, Waterloo led 4-3.

Kevin Charyszyn added an insurance goal for Waterloo early in the third period, and the Black Hawks held on for the 5-3 win.

Sioux City beat the Des Moines Buccaneers, 4-2. That sets up a very important USHL Western Conference battle when Sioux City comes to Waterloo. The Black Hawks trail the Musketeers by 5 standing points. It’s the final face-to-face match-up for these two teams during the regular season. Doors open at Young Arena at 6:05, and the puck drops at 7:05 PM.
