The Waterloo Black Hawks topping the Sioux Falls Stampede 2-1 on Friday at Young Arena. Tonight is K-98.5 Country Night with the Black Hawks.

Kevin Charyszyn scored the winning goal one minute into the third. The count was tied 1-1 in the seconds after a Waterloo power play ended, and Jake Ryczek controlled the puck in the high slot. Ryczek’s waist-high shot was tipped past goaltender Jeremy Swayman by Charyszyn near the front of the net.

The lead stood up with eight third period saves by Robbie Beydoun. The Waterloo goalie made 23 for the game.

After spending 20 of the season’s first 32 games on the road, Waterloo had also prevailed Sunday, 4-2 against the Des Moines Buccaneers in the first of five-in-a-row on home ice.

The only goal of the opening period Friday was recorded by the Hawks at 16:17. Nick Swaney’s errant shot from the slot came right to Shane Bowers near the side of the net, and Bowers knocked it across the goal line past Swayman.

The Stampede answered at 5:09 of the second. A takeaway near the Black Hawks line set up the transition chance, with Austin Albrecht setting up Jack Becker to score from close range.

The Black Hawks and Stampede meet for a rematch Saturday. It’s Country Night sponsored by K98.5 and Deringer’s Public Parlor, with live music at the rink. College students can also claim tickets for $8 with their ID from the Domino’s Black Hawks Box Office. To order seats, call the Hawks at (319) 291-7680.
