Northeast Iowa will have a strong presence during the 2017 Iowa Girls High School State Volleyball State Tournament. Play gets underway Tuesday at the US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.

The 2017 Iowa Girls High School State Volleyball Tournament runs November 7-10, and 11 northeast Iowa high schools will make-up the 40-team tourney. Plus, three of the five top seeds come for the northeast sector.

The complete bracket and results, as they happen, can be found here (web).

CLASS 1A:
Defending state champion Janesville (34-7) enters the state tournament as the number one seed. The Wildcats are looking for their fourth title in five years. Starmont (24-8) makes just their second trip to Cedar Rapids in as many years. A win by both schools, and they will meet up in a rematch from last year’s quarterfinals. North Tama (29-7) punch their ticket for the first time in school history, and Tripoli (25-13) plays in their 18th state tournament.

CLASS 2A:
Top Class 2A seed Dike-New Hardford (47-3) makes their 11th straight state tournament appearance. The Wolverines are the defending Class 3A champions, moving to 2A for this season. It’s only the third state appearance for Wapsie Valley (21-5), and it’s the first under new head coach Heather Robinson. Grundy Center (36-6) has qualified for the year-end title tournament seven out of the last eight years.

CLASS 3A:
It’s the seventh state tournament appearance for Waterloo Columbus Catholic (33-8). What makes this year’s invite even more impressive, they moved up to Class 3A at the start of the 2017 season, but that didn’t stop their ability to qualify for the final post-season tournament.

CLASS 4A:
Fourth seed Waverly-Shell Rock (42-5) saw head coach EaVon Woodin become the state’s first coach to reach the 1,000-win mark earlier this season. Independence (33-8) makes it to Cedar Rapids for only the second time in school history.

CLASS 5A:
After a runner-up finish in 2016, Cedar Falls (40-2) is looking for redemption. An impressive 40-win season helped the Tigers secure the top seed in Class 5A.
