In their inaugural season in the Midwest Basketball League, the Cedar Valley CourtKings are still looking for their first road victory following a trip to St. Paul, Minn. Saturday afternoon (May 28, 2016).

Following back-to-back wins at home the past two weeks, the CourtKings dropped a 93-90 decision to the Minnesota Rangers at the Oxford Community Center. Cedar Valley missed a pair of game-tying 3-pointers in the final seconds that would have sent the game to overtime.

Both teams were trying to grab second place in the West Division standings and they battled from from start to finish. The CourtKings (2-3) won the opening quarter 27-25, but mustered only 15 points in the second period. The low-scoring frame allowed the Rangers (3-2) to take a 51-42 lead into the locker room at the halftime break.

Cedar Valley outscored the Rangers 30-22 in the third period but still trailed by one going in to the fourth quarter. The teams traded leads during the final 12 minutes, but Minnesota built an eight-point lead that the CourtKings couldn't overcome. Cedar Valley, however, nearly got the game to overtime.

The CourtKings pulled to within three, at 93-90 in the final seconds. On it's next possession, Minnesota turned the ball over against Cedar Valley's full court press giving the visitors a change to even the score. Following the steal, former UNI guard Marvin Singleton missed a 3-pointer. After an offensive rebound, Singleton's second attempt from behind the arc rattled in and out of the basket at the buzzer.

Singleton led the CourtKings with 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Lamar Wall added 15 points and Alex Coleman chipping in 11.

Cedar Valley returns home at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday (June 4), hosting the Chicago Clovers at the Cedar Valley SportsPlex in Waterloo. The Clovers beat the CourtKings, 109-95, in the season-opener on April 23 in Chicago.
