Counterfeit Money Investigation

Counterfeit money is being used in the Cedar Valley.

Waterloo police are urging businesses in the city to be vigilant of large bills being passed, especially for the purchase of small items. Over the past few days, officers have responded to several reports of fake $100 bills being used at Waterloo businesses.

According to police, the counterfeit currency passes the pen test. The bills need to be studied carefully in order to determine if they are fake or not, authorities said.

Anyone who believes they've received a counterfeit bill should contact law enforcement immediately. Police want callers to provide a description of the person passing the bill and any vehicle that person may be using, if possible.

Meanwhile, police are trying to identify some women (pictured above) who may have information that could help them in their investigation. According to authorities, the women they are looking for were observed leaving local businesses in a light-colored vehicle (also pictured above).

Anyone with information on the women, should contact the Waterloo police at 319-291-4350, Ext. 7, or Cedar Valley Crime Stoppers at 855-300-TIPS (8477). Tips can also be left at www.cvcrimestop.com.

A cash reward is available, police said.
