It was a beautiful night with a landmark win on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the Independence Motor Speedway. Albert Auto Service night at the track did not disappoint with two and three wide racing all night long.

Troy Cordes has been knocking on the door for his IMCA sanctioned win number 100 for a few weeks. The Dunkerton (Iowa) driver closed the deal while racing at his hometrack of Independence.

“We've been struggle the last few weeks,” Cordes said while in the Budweiser Victory Lane. “I call Justin (O'Brien, owner of Rage Chassis), and we talked about things. I think we are on to something now.

“It's pretty cool, if you think about it,” Cordes said when talking about win number 100. “Just think about some of the names that have done it, and we had to work pretty hard to get this one.”

Vern Jackson led the Performance Bodies IMCA Modified field to the green flag. By lap five, Ronn Lauritzen started sticking his nose underneath Jackson. Lauritzen wrestled the lead away by lap eight. Cordes started tenth in the twenty-lap A-Main, and he was able to steal the top spot by lap eleven. Despite a series of caution flags just past halfway, Cordes dominated the final stages of the feature. Lauritzen drove home in second. JD Auringer, Adam Johnson, and Patrick Flannagan completed the top five.

Darren Ackerman started tenth in the Budweiser IMCA Late Model A-Main. Patience was the key as he worked his was through the field on a very slick surface. Scotty Welsch ran the high line to lead the first thirteen laps. “The Soft Shoe” Darren Ackerman worked the bottom line to perfection as he climbed to the top of the score sheet. The only caution flag flew while trying to complete lap 16, but Ackerman was not to be denied. Tyler Droste, who started eighth, finished second. Luke Pestka, Welsch, and Curt Martin made up the rest of the top five.

In the Burco Sales IMCA Stock Car fifteen lap A-Main, Jarod Weepie worked by earlier race leaders Austin Evens and Chris Luloff for the win. Evens finished second. Cole Mather, Luloff, and Justin Temeyer made up the back-half of the top five.

Benji Irvine was the car to beat in the Big Daddy Chassis IMCA Hobby Stock feature, but a late yellow spelled his demise. During a green-white-checkered restart, Irvine's car just would not come up to speed. After the race he said that he was not sure what happened, but he last several spots before the car came back up to speed. Leah Wroten took advantage of Irvine's misfortune to take the win. Brian Happel and Justin Wacha finished second and third. Irvine had to settle for fourth followed by Jerome Wilson.

Tony Olson took the win in the Tenacity Graphics IMCA SportMod fifteen-lap A-Main. Colby Heishman, who has career win numbers one and two on his last two outings this week, finished second. Jim Buhlman was third.

Brandon Maitland scored the win in the RCZ Enterprises Indee Car Class. Buster Pate followed across the line.

Racing action next weekend at the Independence Motor Speedway begins with gates opening at 4:30 PM, hot laps at 6:30 PM. Learn more about the Independence Motor Speedway at RaceIndee.com and on Facebook at Independence Motor Speedway. Hashtag your posts with #RaceIndee.
