Electronic livestock trading hours at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange change Monday, today.

Managing Director of Agricultural Research & Product Development for CME Dave Lehman says it’s a significant cutback in electronic trading hours “So we essentially trade 23-hours a day on Globex and then on Friday we close at 1:55 pm. So, with the exception of the Sunday night overnight and Friday afternoon, we are trading 23-hours a day currently on Globex. Beginning on Monday, that Monday time will be the same, we'll open at 9:05 am trade till 4 pm. But then we'll halt for overnight and reopen the next morning at 8am. So, Tuesday through Thursday our hours will be 8 am thru 4 pm and then Friday 8 am to 1:55 pm.”

Lehman says the change will affects the futures more than the options. “Futures are predominately traded on the Globex. The electronics platform options is kind of split between the trading floor and Globex" says CME Group’s Dave Lehman.
