Clarification on the School Bus Stop Sign

It's a little confusing what to do approaching that school bus stop sign. Not anymore.

When following a school bus, it is just easy to know that if the stop sign is extended, you can't pass the school bus. Why would you? There are children getting off the bus and maybe crossing the street that can't see you. But sometimes its confusing on what to do if you are driving the opposite way; or if you are in the far lane on the opposite way.
