Christmas music is supposed to bring joy and happiness, right? Well, research says it actually may have the opposite effect. Those cheerful holiday tunes could wind up causing you a fa-la-la-la-lot of stress.

Hearing "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree," "Jingle Bells," or "Let It Snow" on a continuous loop may lead to annoyance, boredom, and even distress.

This psychological impact is defined as the "mere exposure effect." In short, after a certain length of time the brain becomes oversaturated, triggering a negative response. And if you're ALREADY stressed about about money or seeing family for the holidays ... the constant repetition could increase that anxiety.

So if you're easily triggered by "Dominick The Donkey," you might want to ask for some earplugs in your stocking.
