Pretty much everyone knows the simple, sweet song "You Are My Sunshine" -- but you've never heard it quite like this.

For producer Dave Cobb's Southern Family concept album, Chris Stapleton and wife Morgane put together a studio version of "You Are My Sunshine," an in-concert favorite of theirs, that gives new life to the sunny (pun intended) song. Their recording is twangy, dark and, frankly, straight-up incredible.

Morgane Stapleton generally sings backup for her singer-songwriter husband, but she takes the lead on "You Are My Sunshine" -- and if you thought her husband's voice was something else, you ain't heard nothin' yet. With her husband providing background vocals this time around, Morgane Stapleton brings out aching and yearning in this well-known track. If "You Are My Sunshine" is any indication, it's only a matter of time until Morgane Stapleton has a record deal of her own.

Chris and Morgane Stapleton's Southern Family contribution is one of 12 tracks on Cobb's concept album, which also features everyone from Miranda Lambert and Zac Brown to Brandy Clark and Shooter Jennings.

“Somebody said, ‘You should make a concept record,’ and I kind of giggled about it for a second. But then I thought, ‘Man, wouldn’t it be amazing to have all my friends on one record and really find a common thread?'” Cobb explains. “… This really encapsulates Nashville right now: There’s something to it. There’s something in the air."

Southern Family is scheduled to drop on March 18 on Low Country Sound / Elektra Record. It is available for pre-order now.
