College students in Cedar Falls were able to escape a fire that destroyed a transit bus this (Thursday) morning.

Shortly after 7am, the driver of a MET Transit bus was alerted by one of the passengers, that the back of the bus was on fire.

The bus had just stopped to pick up several students at the UNI transport center in Cedar Falls, to take them to Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo. The blaze happened as the bus was traveling on Ohio Street on the UNI campus.

Seven students were riding at the time, and all, including the driver, got off without any injuries.

The blaze spread, engulfing the bus.

The Cedar Falls Fire department doused the blaze; the cause was initially not determined, but authorities were looking at the possibility it was started by leaking fuel on hot engine parts.
