This may surprise a few people, but many celebrities served in the United States military long before they became famous. Here is a list of some of them and the branch they served in.

Montel Williams - the talk show host served in both the Marine Corp and the U.S. Navy. He was a Marine from 1974-1976 and his Navy service was from 1976-1988.

Bill Cosby - served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years from 1956-1960.

Ice-T - the rapper-turned-actor served in the U.S. Army 25th infantry division for 4 years before being honorably discharged.

Drew Carey - The Price is Right host and stand-up comic served 6 years in the U.S. Marine Corp Reserve, and was discharged with the rank of Corporal.

Chuck Norris - served in the U.S. Air Force from 1958-1962 as an Air Policeman.

Pat Sajak - the Wheel-of-Fortune host joined the U.S. Army in 1968 and worked as an Army disk jockey during the Vietnam War.

Tom Selleck - before "Blue Bloods" and "Magnum P.I." he served in the 160th infantry regiment of the California National Guard.

Rob Riggle - the comedian who went from The Daily Show with Jon Stewart to starring movie roles was a U.S. Marine first, joining the Corps in 1990 and serving in the Kosovo and Afghanistan wars.
