Crime declined 2.5-percent in Cedar Falls last year, according to 2015 statistics released this week by police chief and public safety director Jeff Olson.

There were 2,136 crimes reported last year, compared to 2,191 in 2014. Significant drops were noted in thefts and vandalism.

Thefts dropped a total of 18.9-percent, from 729 two years ago to 591 in 2015. Vandalism dropped 14.3 percent, from 231 to 198, while OWI arrests went up 17.5-percent from 120 to 141.

“The crime rates have varied over the years, but our overall trend is down," Olson said. "We have a lot of great citizens that have helped us along the way by calling in suspicious activity and being good witnesses. We hope the downward trend continues.”

The 2015 statistics report does not include crime that occurred on the University of Northern Iowa campus.
