Bucks Postpone Today’s Home Game At Riverfront Stadium

It's seems that mother Nature and the rising Cedar River are the only things that can stop the Waterloo Bucks right now. The team's scheduled home game at Riverfront Stadium today (Sunday June 22, 2014) will not be played.

The Bucks have postponed the opener of a two-game series against the St. Cloud Rox, which was supposed to start at 3:35 p.m. today. The Northwoods League (NWL) game will be made up as a part of a doubleheader on Monday (June 23, 2014), starting at 6:05 p.m. Gates to Riverfront Stadium will open at 5:30 p.m.

Tickets and and discounted admission coupons for Sunday’s game will be valid for Monday’s twinbill, which will feature two seven-inning games. One admission ticket is good for both games of the doubleheader.

Team officials say rain, unplayable field conditions and rising flood water all played a factor in the decision to postpone this afternoon's game.

At noon Sunday, flood water had gone beyond the fence surrounding the front of the stadium. The water covered the stadium's outdoor concourse and was within feet of Riverfront's outside walls.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has extended the flood warning for the Cedar River at Waterloo through Friday (June 27). At 10 a.m. today, the river stage was at 18.2 feet or 5.2 feet above the 13-foot flood stage. The river is forecast to rise to 18.4 feet later today, before cresting around 7 p.m.

At noon Sunday, flood water had gone beyond the fence surrounding the front of Riverfront Stadium. The water covered the stadium's outdoor concourse and was within feet of the Riverfront's outside walls.

The Bucks played Saturday night's game, despite flood water covering a large portion of the stadium's parking lot. With vehicle access cut off, 1,755 fans parked on nearby residential streets and walked over the flood levee to get to the game.

The Bucks beat the Duluth Huskies, 2-1, in 10 innings, extending their winning streak to eight games. With the victory, Waterloo gained sole possession of second-place in the NWL's North Division standings and moved to within 1-1/2 games of first place.

After Monday’s games, the Bucks will hit the road for the next seven games.
