Both inmates who failed to return to a Waterloo work release facility have now been taken back into custody.

20 year old Jared Brooks had been serving a 10 year sentence for willful injury causing serious injury, and intimidation with a dangerous weapon, from a 2012 shooting in Waterloo. He had been placed on work release status in March.

Brooks and another inmate, 23 year old Darius Caston, were put on escaped status after they both failed to return to the work release facility over the weekend.

Caston had been sentenced to 20 years in prison for three counts of intimidation with a dangerous weapon and willful injury. Caston had injured 3 people in a shooting on West Third Street in July of 2010.

Caston was arrested Monday; Brooks was taken back into custody late Monday night during a traffic stop; he was a passenger in the vehicle.
