Brock Boeser’s second hat trick of the season propelled the Waterloo Black Hawks past the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and to a 6-4 victory at Cedar Rapids Ice Arena on Saturday, February 14,2015.

Each team scored a first period goal, with all of the offense contained in a 23-second window. The RoughRiders struck first at 8:33 when Adam Gaudette dashed to the net; his shot bounced in off of Cale Morris after the Hawks’ goalie made the initial save. However, Waterloo cashed in on a two-on-one rush on the ensuing shift. Tyler Sheehy kept the puck himself and lifted a shot over the stick-side shoulder of Ryan Larkin from the right wing circle.

Sheehy put the Hawks ahead in the second period during a power play, knocking the rebound of a Boeser shot over the goal line at 7:29. Then Boeser scored himself with 9.4 seconds remaining in the period. Stepping around Logan Von Ruden and through the left circle, the Hawks’ leading scorer went to the goalmouth to beat Larkin to the short side.

The teams took turns scoring in the third, beginning with a Tom Novak tally at 3:09. Andrew Gaus answered with a shot under the crossbar at 10:04, but Boeser’s second of the game not quite four minutes later reestablished a three-goal lead. As with his first goal, Boeser put the puck in from close range while skating one way and shooting back the opposite direction.

With 3:38 remaining, Zach Court kept Cedar Rapids’ hopes alive by banging in the rebound of a Charlie Curti point shot. Just 1:48 remained when Henrik Rommel was able to fend off a check in the left circle and slip a pass to Boeser for the hat trick-completing tally, originating from just outside the crease. Court recorded the game’s final goal at 19:01 with an extra attacker on the ice, sweeping the puck past Morris’ left skate.
