Shane Bowers scored 2:26 into overtime, lifting the Waterloo Black Hawks to a 4-3 win against the Tri-City Storm Saturday at Young Arena.

Bowers jabbed the puck inside the post to the left of Dayton Rasmussen after it had been worked loose behind the net by Niko Hildenbrand. The win gives Waterloo the season series against Tri-City, six standings points to four.

The Storm recorded the first goal of the contest 4:58 into the second period when defenseman John Marino sped to the Hawks’ net for a chance.  The opportunity was turned away by Cale Morris, but with the puck bouncing in the goalmouth, it caromed in off of a defender.

Waterloo tied the game during a power play at 11:47. Less than a minute after Morris denied a shorthanded Dan Labosky breakaway, Liam Pecararo set the table for Michael Davies at the other end of the ice. The defenseman blasted a shot into the net from the high slot for his second goal in as many nights.

In the third, Pecararo’s exploits boosted Waterloo to a two-goal lead.  Yuri Terao sprung his linemate on a breakaway with a 50-foot pass, and Pecararo slipped the puck between the pads of Rasmussen at 7:16.  Seven-and-a-half minutes later, Pecararo extended the lead by converting a penalty shot, wristing the puck low to the stick side.

Tri-City made their comeback within the final three minutes of regulation. Jake Wahlin worked the puck off the left wing boards with 2:50 remaining, creating the opportunity for Andrew Peski to move unmarked through the opposite circle and lift a shot under the crossbar. Just 34 seconds later, Alex Limoges flipped in a backhander from the slot to even the count.

The Hawks are on home ice for two games again next weekend. Waterloo hosts the U.S. National Team Development Program Under-18s both Friday and Saturday. It’s a college weekend; tickets for current college students are $7 in advance or $8 on game day with id. For order, or for more details, call the Domino’s Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680.
