The Waterloo Black Hawks did not lack chances Saturday night (Nov. 8, 2014), but the Green Bay Gamblers staved off their hosts in a 3-1 decision at Young Arena in United States Hockey League (USHL) play.

The visitors opened the scoring during a power play 6:35 into the game, when Chris Brown lifted a shot from the right circle to the top corner past a screened Hayden Lavigne. Green Bay added to their lead at 11:51 after the puck was lodged on the right boards. No one marked Anthony Walsh at the left point and when the puck came off the wall, Walsh was left one-on-one with Lavigne and knocked the puck across the line.

After 17 Waterloo shots in the first period, Waterloo sent 16 more to the net in the second and broke through at 11:27. Nick Olczyk was on the move in the right circle and buried a shot under the crossbar, over the shoulder of Jason Pawloski.

The Gamblers scored 7:04 into the third to stretch the lead back to two goals. Brian Bowen flipped the puck into traffic and it went off a Black Hawk into the net for what proved to be the final goal of the night.

Waterloo accumulated at least 16 shots in every period, finishing the affair with a 49-37 edge in on-frame opportunities.

Up next, the Hawks visit the Sioux City Musketeers for a Veteran’s Day tilt on Tuesday.
