The Waterloo Black Hawks prepare for three games in three days. Beginning Thursday (Nov. 6, 2014), the Black Hawks hit the road to Chicago.  They will return home for a Friday-Saturday double-header inside Young Arena.  Waterloo currently holds a 4-3-2 record in United States Hockey League (USHL) play this season.

Chicago Start, Wisconsin Weekend:
After taking the ice just twice during an 18-day span, the Black Hawks will play three games in three days beginning on Thursday. The busy stretch opens with a road game against the Chicago Steel. That matchup will be played at alternate rink in the Chicago area – Seven Bridges Ice Arena in the suburb of Woodridge – and has already been sold out. Waterloo returns for Friday and Saturday home games against the Madison Capitols and Green Bay Gamblers. The Hawks hosted the final regular season game played by the Wisconsin Capitols – Madison’s prior USHL entry – a 7-5 Hawks victory at Young Arena on March 11, 1995. The Capitols’ and Gamblers’ trips to the Cedar Valley this weekend will be their only regular season visits in 2014/15.

Trying for Ten:
In nine games, Waterloo forward Brock Boeser has scored nine goals. He will look for his tenth on Thursday in Chicago, and if he puts the puck in the net, it is believed that it would be the first time a Black Hawk has recorded ten goals in the first ten games of the season since 1994/95. That autumn, Todd Steinmetz got off to a hot start with 11 tallies by the end of October. Of Boeser’s nine goals this year, four have been scored on the power play, with one shorthanded. The Wisconsin commit leads the Hawks with 43 shots on goal.

End of the Road (Trip):
Thursday’s tilt with the Chicago Steel will be Waterloo’s fourth consecutive road game. The Hawks are 1-0-2 during the current portion of their schedule. Although the squad gets back to home ice on Friday and Saturday, they will face a challenging month of travel during November; six of ten games will be away. Waterloo’s longest chain for road games in 2014/15 will be between January 2nd and 17th. In that span, the Hawks will play six times away from Young Arena. With seven away goals, Brock Boeser leads the USHL in road scoring.

Coming Out Firing:
The Black Hawks took the lead just 34 seconds into last Friday’s game against the Lincoln Stars thanks to a goal by Tyler Sheehy. It is the fastest Waterloo goal since Zach Sanford put the Hawks ahead of the Des Moines Buccaneers 28 seconds into a matchup on March 28th. The Hawks went on to win that game 7-2 and posted a 2-1-0 record last season when scoring a goal during the first minute of play. Waterloo has notched the first goal of the night during all three games of the current road trip.

Weekly Recap:
Brock Boeser completed the first Waterloo hat trick this season, and the Hawks topped the Lincoln Stars 6-4 on Friday. Veterans Tyler Sheehy, Tyson McLellan, and Brandon Montour also contributed to the offensive outburst. Waterloo staved off seven Stars power plays during the meeting, while outshooting Lincoln 31-27.
