The United States Hockey League (USHL) announced Wednesday that Waterloo Black Hawks forward Tyler Sheehy will skate during the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on January 13, 2015 in Dubuque.

Sheehy was the first alternate forward in case one of the initial participants became injured or otherwise unable to appear. Players competing in the game were picked in a process which included USHL general managers, NHL scouts and team personnel, and NHL Central Scouting. All players who will dress for the exhibition are eligible for the 2015 NHL Draft.

The 19-year-old from Burnsville, Minnesota is in his second year with the Black Hawks, as well as his second year of draft eligibility. At the conclusion of last season, Sheehy was named to the 2014 USHL All-Rookie Team. He averaged a point per game with 21 goals and 28 assists in 49 regular season contests and currently ranks second in scoring for the 2014/15 Black Hawks (11 goals, 16 assists). During the 2014 Clark Cup Playoffs, Sheehy led all USHL players with eight goals. The University of Minnesota recruit was involved in another highly-scouted event last month when he helped the U.S. Junior Select Team to a gold medal at the World Junior A Challenge in Saskatchewan.

By a quirk of circumstance, Sheehy will play against the other three Black Hawks appearing in the USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game. Linemates Brock Boeser and Tom Novak, plus defenseman Ethan Spaxman will play for Team West. However, the open slot which Sheehy was named to fill came about due to an injury to Robby Jackson of the Chicago Steel, and therefore the Waterloo forward will be with Team East.

The Dubuque Fighting Saints are hosting the 2015 USHL/NHL Top Prospects at Mystique Ice Center next Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. For more information about the game, contact the Fighting Saints at (563) 583-6880.
