After months of anticipation, the Waterloo Black Hawks finally kicked off the hockey 2014-2015 season.  On Friday, September 26, 2014, the Fargo Force came to Young Arena.

All the scoring came in the first period Friday as the Fargo Force prevailed 2-1 on opening night against the Waterloo Black Hawks at Young Arena.

Fargo’s Mikey Eyssimont recovered the puck after his initial shot was blocked and slipped in the first goal of the season during a power play at 9:03. Just over five minutes later, the Force added to their margin when Christian Cakebread scored from a sharp angle left of the net, flipping a rebound to the twine at 14:11.

The lone Black Hawk goal was fired in by Brock Boeser at 18:44 during a two-man advantage. Tom Novak set up the chance, saucering the puck to Boeser in the slot for a rocket past Mathias Israelsson’s stick side.

Israelsson stopped Waterloo’s other 38 chances as the Hawks outshot Fargo 39-17. Hayden Lavigne made 15 saves.

The Hawks are on home ice again for their next game on Friday, October 3rd with a Prairie Farms Cowbell Cup duel scheduled against the Dubuque Fighting Saints. The first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a 2014/15 magnetic schedule, presented by Days Inn & Suites. It’s also a College Night, with $8 tickets for college students with ID on game night or $7 seats in advance.
