Two four-goal periods by the Sioux City Musketeers presented a deficit too large to overcome for the Waterloo Black Hawks during an 8-4 Tuesday, November 11, 2014 loss at Tyson Events Center.

The Musketeers dashed away from the Black Hawks in the opening period, beginning with a shorthanded goal by Adam Johnson at 1:27. Joel Janatuinen put in a rebound at 5:47, then a power play goal by Joe Snively at 8:01 gave the home team a tally in all three phases. Alex Rodriguez added one more goal in transition, making the score 4-0 with 1:31 left before intermission.

Sioux City extended their margin to 7-0 at one point in the second on goals by Sam Saliba, Johnson, and Snively by the 13:23 mark of the period. The Hawks recorded two of the last three in the frame, with John Wiitala flipping in a rebound at 14:53 and Nick Hildenbrand cashing in from close range at 17:06. In between, Robert Carpenter added one more Sioux City tally in transition at 16:14.

Waterloo scored the only goals in the third period. Tyler Sheehy flipped the puck into an open side during a power play at 11:18. Less than two minutes later, Brock Boeser swatted a chance past the left skate of Collin Olson. Olson’s 39 saves were an important element as the Hawks outshot the Muskies 43-29.

Waterloo takes the ice next on Friday, visiting the Mystique Ice Center to meet the Dubuque Fighting Saints. The Hawks return home Saturday for a tilt with the Sioux Falls Stampede at 7:05 p.m. For tickets, call the Domino’s Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680 or visit waterlooblackhawks.com.
