The Waterloo Black Hawks claimed their fourth consecutive road win Saturday, topping the Dubuque Fighting Saints 5-3 at Mystique Ice Center on Saturday, February 28, 2015.

Dubuque pulled ahead with the opening goal of the game at 2:26, just nine seconds into a power play, when Wyatt Ege’s shot from the high slot found its way through traffic and under the crossbar. Thirty-six seconds later, Larry Jungwirth took a feed from Blake Christensen and went from forehand to backhand to flip a shot past Gavin Nieto.

The Hawks pulled into the lead at 14:37 when a low Max Coatta blast trickled through Nieto. However, the Saints tied the matchup in the final minute before intermission; as Brett Boeing was falling to the ice in the slot, he flipped the puck into the net.

Waterloo notched the only two goals of the second period, both originating just to the left of Nieto. During a power play at 6:05, Henrik Rommel’s pass deflected off of Ege and into the Dubuque net. Then with 35.6 seconds remaining in the period, Tom Novak found the puck resting at the side of the cage before jabbing it inside the post.

The teams exchanged goals in the third period, beginning at 3:05 when Tyler Sheehy hit Brock Boeser behind the Dubuque defense and Waterloo’s leading goal scorer snapped a shot between the pipes. Dubuque answered five minutes, one second later; Sasha Larocque lifted the disk to the top corner from above the right circle during a power play.

Larocque’s goal was the only one of 17 third period shots to elude Cale Morris. Waterloo’s netminder made 34 saves during the game for his tenth win with the Black Hawks. The Saints outshot Waterloo 37-22.
