Beginning February 1, 2015, the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office will be offering on-line weapons permit applications and renewals.  This is the only system that the office will use for the purposes of making application for weapons permits in Black Hawk County in the future.  Applicants will be able to apply from home or use one of two kiosks located in the Sheriff’s Office front lobby.  The same procedure is currently being used in other large counties and the reviews have been strong.

“When the weapons permiting law changed in 2011, we saw a large influx of applicants for the 5 year permit.  This means that in 2016 there will be the same large numbers for renewals.  We wanted to get this process out there early, so that applicants can familiarize themselves with the easy, on-line process, and hopefully reduce the amount of driving and time waiting for our citizens in processing those applications in the future” says Sheriff Tony Thompson.  Because of this new system, the Sheriff’s Office will no longer accept paper applications after February 1, 2015 and all applications must use the on-line format either by applying on-line, or at the Sheriff’s Office lobby kiosk.

“This software has some interesting features as well, in that it can send you a text message, a voice message, or an e-mail notifying you that your permit is ready for pick-up.  It will also save our citizens one trip to the office as well.  We are always looking for efficiency in county
