Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Deputy Arrested on Weapons Charges
A Black Hawk County Sheriff's Deputy has been arrested on weapons charges.
According to a release sent out by the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Department, a Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Deputy was taken into custody early this morning (Friday, October 14th) on allegations of being intoxicated while in possession of a weapon. Deputy Erick McFerran, age 34, of Waterloo was arrested and charged by the Waterloo Police Department on a criminal complaint of “carrying weapons”. He was booked into the Black Hawk County Jail and later released on a court order following an initial court appearance.
McFerran is being placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal affairs investigation into the incident.
“We are currently working cooperatively with the investigating agency and the county attorney’s office regarding this incident. In situations such as this, transparency to our processes and honesty in the investigative procedures is a paramount focus for our administration. This case will be handled with the diligence we demonstrate in all our investigations… with respect for the accused, the apparent victim, and the law. Once the internal affairs investigation is complete, more details will be forth coming.” - says Sheriff Tony Thompson
