As a volunteer youth baseball coach in the Cedar Valley, I look for things to inspire me to stay positive.  It's especially tough to stay positive in front of the kids when things get rough.  Even after losing, the Little League World Series coach from Rhode Island did exactly that - stayed positive.

Most everyone knows that I volunteer coach youth baseball in the Cedar Valley.  Even though my son has moved on to his high school program, I have continued to volunteer my time to teach kids in the Cedar Valley my love for the game.  I love the game, and I hope I can teach my young players more than just the game.

I tell my parents each year that I work for 'The Reward I Will Never See".  Baseball is a mentally tough game.  Besides a meteorologist, there are not many situations in life where you fail more times that you succeed, and you keep your job.  That's baseball in a nut shell.

I hope something I have said will hit home for these young men five, ten, or even twenty years down the road.  They might be dealing with a stressful situation, or just failed at something they tried so hard to accomplished.  Then the words of Coach Buck pops up in the back of their minds, and they are able to regroup and move on.

This video is of Rhode Island's coach, David Belisle.  I fell in love with this coaches style and approach with the kids back in the Little League World Series Regional play.  He handled that tough speech you have to give to the kids when your final game is a loss, and a loss at such a big moment lke the Little League World Series.

Mr. Belisle, you are the man, and you have reminded me of my mission when coaching.  I'll keep striving for 'The Reward I Will Never See".
