Ben Affleck is the most hated man in America, and we’re not referring to Batfleck backlash. The latest ‘Gone Girl‘ trailer previews director David Fincher‘s adaptation of the best-selling novel of the same name, in which Affleck’s Nick Dunne becomes the primary suspect in his wife’s disappearance and presumed murder.

Affleck stars as Nick Dunne, a writer who realizes his marital bliss is a thing of the past.  Bucky Doren's 'current' dream girl Rosamund Pike portrays his wife, Amy.  That would be Affleck's wife in the movie, not Bucky's ... he wishes.

In the movie, she mysteriously vanishes from their home.  There are signs of a struggle, and Nick becomes the face of the search campaign but ends up becoming the primary suspect. Did he, in fact, kill his own wife?

The novel itself is structured as a back-and-forth between Nick’s point of view, beginning on the morning of his wife’s disappearance, and Amy’s diary entries, and this new ‘Gone Girl’ trailer provides hope that the film will be a faithful and desired adaptation. After all, you can’t go wrong with Fincher.

‘Gone Girl’ opens in theaters October 3.
