Every kid who loves baseball and softball has that dream of someday playing the sport professionally. Later this month, the Waterloo Bucks are giving area youth a chance to show their skills in a competition that includes the possibility of playing in a major league stadium.

On Sunday, April 27, 2014, the Bucks are hosting “Pitch, Hit and Run”, the officials skills competition of Major League Baseball. The free event is open to all boys and girls ages 7 to 14. Competition begins at noon at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo. Registration for the event begins at 11:30 a.m.

“Pitch, Hit and Run” is a grassroots program that’s designed to provide youngsters with an opportunity to compete, free of charge, in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball and softball skills.

Boys and girls are divided into four age divisions – 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, and 13/14. Each age group has the chance to advance through four levels of competition, including team championships at major league ballparks and the national finals at the 2014 MLB All-Star Game in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The individual pitching, hitting and running champions, along with the All-Around champion in each age and gender group at the local competition will be awarded and advance to the sectional level of competition.

All participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate and have their parent or guardian fill out a registration/waiver form prior to the start of competition.

Bucks Assistant General Manager Clayton Grandquist is coordinating the local competition. For questions, contact Grandquist at grandquist@waterloobucks.com or 319-232-0500.
