The now-former mayor of Oelwein, accused of sexually assaulting two young girls, will appear for an arraignment next week.

36 year old Jason Manus is charged with 4 counts of third degree sexual abuse and one count of second degree sex abuse, for incidents that allegedly involved a 9 year old girl and a 12 year old girl in Oelwein, four years ago.

Manus was charged August 11th after an investigation by the DHS and Fayette County Sheriff. His arraignment is set for Wednesday, September 3rd.

He submitted his resignation as mayor of Oelwein to the city council on Monday. In his letter of resignation, Manus maintains that he is innocent of the charges, but the case is casting a shadow on the city of Oelwein.

The council will meet tonight at 6pm to determine the next course of action: either appoint a new mayor or call for a special election.
